Dyson has made a name for itself in the world of airflow technology, particularly with vacuum cleaners, so the move into hair dryers might raise some eyebrows. The Supersonic Origin harnesses that expertise, providing a quicker drying experience while minimizing heat damage, especially when compared to typical models that simply blow hot air.
One of the key features of the Supersonic Origin is its motor, which is cleverly repositioned to the handle. This design shift enhances balance and usability. Conventional dryers often struggle with heavy motors at the top, leading to fatigue in your arm after a short period. Dyson’s V9 digital motor, on the other hand, can achieve a remarkable spinning rate of 110,000 rpm—far outpacing the standard limit of 20,000 rpm seen in many dryers. This powerful motor pushes 13 liters of air per second through the barrel, creating a concentrated, high-velocity airflow that dries hair from the inside while preventing excessive heat on the outer layer.
It also boasts a sophisticated heat control system that measures air temperature 40 times each second, relaying the information to a microprocessor that adjusts the heating element accordingly. This keeps the temperature under 302°F, which is essential since hair can suffer damage above that point. Many drugstore dryers can reach troubling temperatures of 350-400°F, risking hair health by damaging the protective cuticles. The Supersonic ensures a stable temperature, allowing for fast drying without the harsh effects associated with high heat.
In contrast to ordinary dryers that typically come with just low, medium, and high settings, this model offers three speed options and four heat levels, in addition to a cold shot button to lock in your style by closing the hair cuticle. The effectiveness of the cold shot feature can’t be understated; it helps seal the hydrogen bonds of your hair after styling, ensuring your styling remains flawless for longer.
